Writing Thank You Notes For Wedding Gifts

Wording your Thank You Cards

Examples for wording your Wedding Thank You Cards

Thank you cards are an important element of your wedding stationery - aside from your Invitation there is nothing more important than thanking your guests for attending! Thank you cards are generally sent to your guests a month or two after your wedding and are a lovely way of thanking your guests for attending and sharing your wedding day with you. It is also an opportunity to thank them for any gifts they may have given.

Handwritten or Printed

There are 2 types of letterpress Thank you cards we offer. The first and most popular option is to have a printed flat card with a minimal amount of text, allowing plenty of space for you to handwrite a personal message. This is the traditional way of writing Thank you cards and in some circumstances is the only appropriate option. These cards are great for thanking your guests for their presence on the day and any gifts they may have given as it allows you to personalise each card.

The second option is a Thank you card printed with a thank you message. These are great for couples who have busy schedules or long guest lists! They are a lovely way of saying Thank you without hand-writing individual notes to every guest.

What to include in your Message

There are a few things we recommend including as a starting point in your Thank you card message. This can be a great starting point for crafting the perfect wording.

Thank guests for attendance

One of the key points we like to include on thank you cards is thanking guests for attending - without them your wedding would not have been the same. If guests have traveled long distances or made a particular effort to be there be sure to make note of this.

Thank guests for their gift

Whether you had a gift registry or wishing well, be sure to make a point to thank your guests for their generous gift. If possible mention the gift that was given (no need to note the monetary amounts). Guests will enjoy knowing that their gift has been appreciated.

Make it personal

Mention the moments that made your wedding so special - was there something unforgettable during the ceremony or speeches? Was the dancing over the top? Make note of this in your thank you card to remind your guests of your shared experience.

Thank You Card Wording Examples

"Thank you for adding to the joyful spirit of our wedding with your presence and lovely gift."

"Thank you for celebrating with us on our wedding day! Your company, love and wishes made our day complete and we appreciate your love and support. "

"We sincerely thank you for your company, gift and good wishes and for helping us make our wedding day an occasion we will always remember."

"Thank you for being there on the most important day of our lives. We only hope that you had as much fun at our wedding as we did!"

"We would like to thank you for sharing in our wedding celebration. We are grateful for your presence, warm wishes, and your generous gift. We look forward to our future together and to making more memories with you."

"Your presence at our wedding has added so much love to our special day. Your gift has brought us joy and will help us build our life together."

You can mix and match to suit your circumstances and of course the tone of the message should reflect your style. We also have some suggestions available as a PDF along with other information on the 'Wording & Etiquette' page of our website.

Final Tips

Be timely with your thank you notes. Most people expect a reply within 2-3 months. We recommend ordering your Thank you cards at the same time as your Invitations to ensure you can send your Thank you cards in a timely manner following your wedding.

Write notes to everyone, even if they didn't give a gift. You might also like to send thank you messages to guests who weren't able to attend (but who sent well wishes) or suppliers who made your day extra special.
